About The Book
On New Year’s Day of 1915 a bloody terrorist attack took place in the Australian town of Broken Hill. The newspapers of the time reported that two Turks attacked a picnic train and murdered innocent civilians. This tragic event helped the recruitment campaign of the Australian government, which had been having difficulties in drawing sufficient number of volunteers for the Great War. Soon after the Broken Hill attack, thousands of Australians and New Zealanders volunteered to join the ANZAC forces and many of those volunteers had a burning desire to punish the Turks. However, in time it became apparent that not a single Turk was involved in this tragic incident and any evidence that would have proven their guilt or innocence were destroyed immediately afterward. Thus, the truth behind this bloody incident was not exposed for nearly a century until this book explored the hidden background of this tragic event.
